Spring Is Just Around The Corner

Saturday

After the beautiful weekend we had last week, most of this week was a generally soggy affair. Hopefully it was winter's last hurrah. Ro still rode his bike every chance he got, though. Sherry has even spotted a few daffodils blooming. Mark took Ro to rugby practice this week, only to find it was rained out. There were a few squads practicing, but Ro's team was nowhere to be seen. Undaunted, Ro insisted on staying at Blake Park until all the other teams had left before he was convinced that his team wasn't showing up.

This morning we were up bright and not-so-early for Ro's rugby game. We hit the snooze one-too-many times, so we were a few minutes late getting there. It was certainly the nicest weather we've had at a rugby game since...well, ever (there weren't any games over winter holiday). Ro's getting better at the game, slowly but surely. He ran hard - in the right direction, stopped when he got his flag ripped off, and passed the ball only to his teammates. Of course, most of the energy he expended was on the playground afterwards while Sherry went grocery shopping. Sherry and Ro spent the afternoon at a birthday party for one of Ro's school chums; Mark, correctly guessing that no other dads (other than the birthday girl's) would be there, wisely avoided the estrogen-fest and stayed home to work on a Powerpoint presentation he has to give this week.

Mark had to run some errands this afternoon, so he took Ro along. Ro tearing through downtown Mt Maunganui is half-frightening and half-hilarious. He wiped out against some sidewalk cafe chairs at least three times...lol. Of course we ended up at Drury Park so he could play on the new playground. With the rainclouds threatening, the park was decidedly less crowded than last weekend, so Mark was the horsepower for the Witch's Hat. We made it home just in time for dinner, where Sherry had a roast chicken and vegetables in the oven, and we opened a bottle of champagne left over from Mark's birthday.
