Cerine left New Zealand just in time, as it's been raining ever since. Thursday evening we took Ro and Barnaby to see Where The Wild Things Are. We hurriedly grabbed some Burger King for the kids on the way, and successfully snuck the remaining chips into the theatre thanks to some quick thinking on Sherry's part. The movie was a lot darker and the kid was a lot brattier than we remembered from the book. The scene where he's impatiently calling out for his mother to come look at his bedsheet fort, though, was pure Ronan.
After school yesterday, Ro's friend Jack and his Nana Jean came over for a playdate. Sherry had baked chocolate chip muffins, which made for a nice tea with some fresh strawberries. When Mark got home from work, he helped the boys build a bedsheet fort (what else?) while Sherry and Jean poured themselves a second cup of coffee.

Fancy another cuppa?
Ro spiked a fever last night, and Sherry was up most of the night with him. The crud has been going around his class, and he had dodged it so far because we were in Melbourne, but it finally caught him. He was feeling better by this morning, though, and Sherry whipped up some French Toast (on French bread - thanks Teta) and fruit salad for the boys for breakfast.
Sherry spent the morning Christmas and grocery shopping at Bayfair, but kept getting interrupted by fire drills and evacuated. Apparently the roof of the mall leaks, somehow setting off the smoke detectors. Arriving home frustrated after several hours, she found Mark & Ro in the pool with Barnaby. Mark had figured any of Ro's germs would be killed by the chlorine before they got to Barnaby, and Ro was getting pretty stir-crazy cooped up in the apartment, sick or not. There was a Christmas party for Mark's work tonight at a local bar, but we skipped it since we didn't want to pawn off a sick Ronan on Craig, even if just for a short while.
The Mount was buzzing today, with a cruise ship in port, and the streets getting closed off for the Tinman Triathlon tomorrow. Sherry made some delicious chicken and rice for dinner, but had a bit of a goof opening the wine. The cheap corkscrew snapped off in the cork! Soon it became a tug-of-war, with Sherry holding the bottle and Mark holding a pair of pliers. Wine never tasted so good.

Although he seemed okay for most of the day, Ro's croupy cough came back with a vengeance once the sun went down. We ran out of Robitussin last night, and Sherry in her shopping frustration had forgotten to get some more. Fortunately, Mark remembered a bottle of dessert wine we'd been saving in the fridge. Just a tablespoon of the stuff worked like a champ. Had to taste better than cough syrup, anyway.
